Dawson started in the broadcasting field when I was 12 years old and has been loving it ever since Day 1.
He was asked to do Hockey Play by Play in November of 2018 for the Princeton Posse of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League when the Play by Play job was just a “floating chair” which the players that weren’t playing had to cover.
One of the players that had the Play by Play task for the night, asked Dawson if he wanted to cover it as he didn’t want to do it. McFarlane was star struck to be able to go on TV and call a Junior Hockey game as a 12 year old.
After the first game, Posse Govenor, Mark McNaughton had asked if Dawson wanted to continue with the Play by Play role and make it my job and he of course said, “Yes” From there, I saw myself working 6 seasons with the Princeton Posse, in the last 2 seasons, I got a job promotion into the “Director of Communications” while sticking with the “Play by Play Broadcaster” role.
During his last season in Princeton, Dawson had the privilege of providing Colour Commentary for 3 games for the West Kelowna Warriors of the British Columbia Hockey League, alongside West Kelowna Warriors Play by Play Broadcaster and BCIT Radio Arts & Entertainment Alumnus, Joey Pitt.
After moving to Burnaby to take the BCIT Radio Arts & Entertainment in September 2025, McFarlane got a job as the Play by Play Broadcaster for the Port Moody Panthers of the Pacific Junior Hockey League for the 2025-26 Season.
